Logistics Trends Coming in 2021

The past year has been filled with many challenges, and now it is finally coming to an end. The world changed in several ways, and many normal day-to-day activities came to a halt.

One aspect of life that seemed as though it would never change is ordering essentials online to have them shipped to households worldwide. But as COVID-19 hit, not only were there shortages of essential goods that are needed every day, but there were also shipping shortages. It was no longer easy to receive packages within 24 hours, and delays started to rack up.

As we wrap up the holiday season and the most significant e-commerce season of the year, we’re experiencing the same problem again. And now, with COVID-19 vaccine distribution getting added to the mix, logistics teams are working harder than ever to get everyone the packages and essentials they need promptly. Lessons have been learned from this process, and necessary changes will be made in the New Year.

Here are a Couple Logistics Trends That We Predict For 2021:

Demand For COVID-19 Vaccines

The demand for COVID-19 vaccines is high, and transportation has begun. In a previous blog post, we mentioned that the final version of the COVID-19 vaccine would either be produced by Pfizer or Moderna. The FDA has finally come to a decision, and the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine has been chosen and approved to begin production and distribution.

These vaccines will be shipped at 5,000 doses and packaged with dry ice at minus 70 degrees celsius. These vaccines can last ten days in these conditions.

With this said, we predict that most of 2021 will be geared towards mass producing and shipping of these vaccines, and AFP Global Logistics is prepared to help.

E-Commerce Shipping Will Return To Normal

Shipping delays are at an all-time high right now, and most of this is due to holiday shopping. However, this will not stop people from buying essential items and other products through the internet. We predict that the e-commerce market will continue to boom in 2021 and beyond. In a world that turns more digital and high-tech every day, online shopping is inevitable and will continue to grow in popularity.
